Welcome to Unlikely Orchid!
I'm Christine, and I'm an artist and an orchid enthusiast. I have nearly 200 orchids, all in my small home in Central New York State. This is a blog about my orchid journey, and to share what I've learned with other orchid enthusiasts.
Many orchids in my collections are orchid species from around the world, as I'm interested in seeing how these plants grow and reproduce under close observation. I also have a growing collection of Jamaican orchids inspired by my father, who grew up in Kingston. My collection started with phalaenopsis hybrids and species, but over time my collection has diversified to include dendrobiums, cattleyas, paphiopedilums, phragmipediums, vandas, sarcochilus, and other genuses of orchids. I also have some hybrids which are often quite vigorous and are interesting examples of genetic combinations.
I'll be posting extended stories about my experiences with particular plants. While social media and forums are great places to share information, posting on a blog provides the opportunity to bring together the history of a plant and consider insights into culture over time.
You can also find me on instagram where I post photos of my orchids daily and on etsy where I sell orchid photography and art.
